Community

Here are some services and portals that you can utilise to help you within the Hastings District.

Community Information

Information about local clubs and organisations can be found on the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) website.

JPs in the Libraries

Do you need help from a Justice of the Peace?  Local JPs are available in Hastings Library, Havelock North Library and Hastings Courthouse at the following times:

  • Hastings Library – Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 2pm - 4pm.
  • Havelock North Library – Saturday mornings, 10am - 12 noon.
  • Hastings Courthouse - Monday to Friday, 10am - 2pm.

The JPs will be available on a roster system.

Having a JP helping you is entirely free of charge. Justices are statutory appointees who receive no payment for their services to the community.  If you are not sure whether a JP can help you, just ask.

Community Noticeboard

All three libraries have noticeboards for community notices and posters.

To display these, please ask in person at the desk of each library, or contact us on libraries@hdc.govt.nz .

Our noticeboards are not used for:

  • Commercial advertisements
  • Private advertisements, e.g. flatmate wanted
  • Party political material
  • Religious material, apart from event notices or services to the community

Petitions

Petitions may be made available for the public to sign, in all three libraries.

These must be approved by the District Libraries Manager.

Petition organisers are responsible for the maintenance and collation of pages.

Please contact us on +64 6 8715000, or libraries@hdc.govt.nz for further information.
