HDL MEH 2019 watever trevor 800x100

A thoroughly interesting teenage guide to the summer holiday (aka how to keep them reading over the summer)

Hastings District Libraries runs the MEH programme for teens 13-18yrs over the summer holidays.

What is MEH?

MEH is a teen offering that concentrates on multiple events throughout the summer that targets different interests and fandoms. Taking cue from other successful library programmes it will also include a challenge card that encourages teens to interact with the libraries as well as reading and learning.

How does the challenge work?

Once a teen registers online at there are 12 challenges to work through. Teens choose whichever challenges they would like to complete.

Each time a challenge is completed it is recorded using the online form, or by talking to a librarian. They are then in to win in the weekly prize draws (between early December to late January). There are books, movie passes and other vouchers up for grabs. Teens will automatically be entered in to win for each week that they complete a challenge.

Participants who have completed 4 or more challenges will go in the grand prize draw. These will be drawn at the final event.

Information for Schools

We want to help encouraging your students to read over the summer break! You can help us achieve this goal by allowing us to talk to your students about this programme before the holidays. We’d love to come to your school assembly!

Here’s how it could work

  • Our team can come out to the school at a prearranged time during term 4
  • We wow your students with our literary awesomeness and they all clamour to sign up for the programme
  • Did we mention it’s FREE?

We look forward to hearing from you and organising a time to visit your school!
